Miss Melanie Field

Consultant Renal Transplant and Parathyroid Surgeon

Miss Field qualified from Birmingham University in 2002 with distinction in medicine. She completed both her junior and higher surgical training in hospitals across the West Midlands. She developed a strong interest in medical education, further cemented by obtaining a master’s degree in medical education.

She has held various education-based roles, including Royal College of Surgeons Tutor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. She is currently the Foundation Programme Training Director for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

During her higher surgical training, she undertook an MD in research on biomarkers of acute kidney injury in renal transplantation. It was during this period that Miss Field developed a particular interest in renal transplantation and surgery for renal failure.

As part of this portfolio, she developed an interest in parathyroid surgery and now chairs the Parathyroid MDT meeting at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Her leadership in this area has contributed to the significant development of the service.

Miss Field practises privately at HCA The Harborne Hospital and The Priory Hospital.

Research & Publications

After completing his Senior House Officer training Mr Simon Radley undertook a period of research into colorectal cancer and submitted a thesis for which he was awarded an MD by the University of Birmingham.

He has published widely on colorectal disease and in particular functional bowel disorders. He has written several book chapters.
